My tranny is stuck, only shifts into reverse, which makes the jeep go forward. I think the shifter mechanism is jumped out (like a fork is off)
I have dealt with this before but i cant find my haynes manual. Figured on of you might have a pic handy.

Thanks,
Josh

PS. Its cold in the junction today!!!

Thanks man!
that was just what i needed
I think the top end of the tranny is a bit worn out. somehow the shifter jumped off track, and jammed a couple shift forks together. i smashed the hell outta my ring finger unsticking the thing. the gears all look good though.

ug.
i am declaring myself in over my head. i put it back together and in neutral it goes in reverse. first gear kills the engine, so it think it's binding with reverse. second goes forward. reverse is reverse, but the shifter doesnt lock all the way down. i screwed something up, my finger hurts, and its damn cold ouside.

Sounds like a shifter fork is outta the groove! Open her up again and look carefully.

you are exactly right!
After I quit whining i went back out and opened it up.
I had to pull the reverse groover thingy back into place.
now she works!
I think I will take her to a tranny shop though, cause it needs to be done. at least i wont need a tow

thanks
