Well I finally got finished re-installing my carb and putting in an MSD ignition system, which works great. I shocked the crap out of myself accidently, that thing is powerful!
Anyway, it's a problem with the carb, because if I spray in some starter fluid it starts right then dies. I can see gas in the float window. I'm just wondering if there was something that I didn't do right, is there something that needs to be primed, etc??
If that's not it, what could I have done wrong to cause this problem? One more thing, there is a small vacuum hose coming off the air filter, and I couldn't figure out where it goes, so I just plugged it. It's on the left side of the air filter if you're looking at the truck.

The vacuum line should plug into the manifold just below the carb. Is the gas in the float bowl up to the middle of the sight glass? Might have the wrong fuel lines hooked up from the fuel pump???? Is the electrical connector hooked back up so the fuel cut solenoid is working? Just a few things to check. Jeff S.

The gas isn't up to the middle of the glass. It's to the bottom of it. I was really careful adjusting it and wut not, but I must've bumped it when I was putting the carb back together.
Is there any way of adjusting the float without tearing the carb apart?

Not really, you don't have to remove the carb to adjust the floats. Just remove the linkage for the choke, fuel line and undo the screws and pull off the top and redo the floats. Should't take too long. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" /> Jeff S.

Will the fuel level being too low in the fuel window not let the truck start at all? I took it apart again, and the float was at the right level, but the truck is parked on a slant, so the level is low.

2 places that small vacuum line could go, one is right below the manifold, directly behind where the large vacuum line attaches. It could also go to the little valve thingie that clips onto the side of the carb (can't remember the name now...) should be 4 vacuum lines coming out of it one of 'em goes to the air cleaner I believe. As far as the sight glass, yes, it does need to be to the center of it, if it's far enough down it could cause it to not want to start, and if it's not that that'll give you problems later, it'll run lean. Double check that choke though, mine gave me troubles when I rebuilt it. BTW, Scerb's write up is awesome. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Hey guys, I think I figured out what it is. I can't start without using starter fluid, and it runs after started. When I hit the gas, the engine takes a little time to ramp up, much longer than before. This leads me to believe it's the acceleration pump.
When I hit the accelerator, there should be a little gas coming out of one or two of those little tubes that stick into the barrels.
I took a picture but I can't figrue out how to post pics. With the top off the carb, gas comes out of a hole in the carb, towards the passenger side, and it looks like it should end up going down the little tube into the passenger barrel of the carb ,but it seems that the little tube is clogged because nothing goes thorugh it. I tried sticking some thin-gauge wire in it, and it won't go through. Should I drill it out? I have some tiny carbide drill bits.
