Getting the Wheeling Fever
|
I was driving yesterday and stopped for a red light , then proceeded to take off and the truck was like taking off ibn second or third gear. so i put it in nuetral and then tried again in drive and it did the same thing. At this time the check engine light came on so I got off to the side of the road and checked the trans fluid which was fine. I turned off the truck and restarted it and put it in drive and it was ok but the check engine light was still on. Had the truck scanned today and it is the shift solinoid A. What is involved with this replacement ? Should a buy the solinoid kit or just repace what is broken ? The trans has been maintained with trans flushed evry 50 k miles. Truck has 129k on it now.
Thanks

Replacement solenoid kit fer the A340 transmission. If you have time...I guess you could try some Auto-RX in the transmission and see if it cleans it up. It's the only thing I would recommend compared to the other stuff. It should gently clean any deposits away and may improve the sticking solenoid. Good luck! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Replacing the solenoids seems pretty easy. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

The same thing happened to me a few years ago. (check my older posts) It will not get any better. You might as well get a kit with all three solinoids and a new gasket. It's real easy to do. The worst part is getting the pan off and then back on again. Dont forget the new fluid. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Ok, I bought the solinoid kit all three and replaced. Drove it for three weeks around town and no problems. I drove it on vacation 350 miles and along the way at highway speeds the check engine light came on along with the O/D light flashing, the trans temp light came on for like 30 along the way. Stopped and checked fluid and it was ok.The Truck seems to shift fine through all the gears. Any thoughts on this one?
Thanks

Sounds like your transmission is overheating. Probably from shifting in and out of overdrive. Get a tranny cooler, or turn off the O.D. next time.

I have mine in front of the radiator. As far as plumbing goes...I have it plumbed in after the stock radiator cooling. What ever you do...DON'T use those plastic pull through fasteners that go through yer radiator. It will eventually vibrate and cut/crack the radiator core. Use the metal straps and secure it that way...even if it means you have to git a longer metal strap. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Ok I have the code from the check engine light and it was PO 0770 Solinoid E. As I stated before I replaced all three solinoids so I guess I have a bad one. I cleared the light and will drive around for a while to see if it goes again but as I stated before it only has thrown the code after driving on the highway for like 2 hours and then the light comes on. Any Ideas again

I am not sure, because I have a 5-speed manual, but do the auto Ts have a lockup torque converter? If so, maybe yours isn't locking up at highway speeds leading to overheating (lots of slipping at higher revs)? Again, I'm not sure if the autos have that but it might be a possibility. Good luck! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
