I am not sure, because I have a 5-speed manual, but do the auto Ts have a lockup torque converter? If so, maybe yours isn't locking up at highway speeds leading to overheating (lots of slipping at higher revs)? Again, I'm not sure if the autos have that but it might be a possibility.
