My '89 is finally nearing the end of its useful service life, so I picked up an '01 Tacoma 2.7L 4x4 manual yesterday. It's in great shape with only 94k miles, but the clutch feels terrible. The release point is right near the top and it's very stiff and sticky with no feel at all. Everything is original and it does not slip in any gear or while holding the truck stationary with the parking brake.

Disclaimer: I just got it home at 11:30pm last night and haven't done any diagnostics yet. I'm at work and am trying to do some research before I start adjusting it.

The clutch disengages within the first inch of travel, so I searched and found the adjustment procedure, but I didn't see any posts about excessive pedal force like I'm experiencing. I agree that the adjustment is likely out of spec, but will that improve the stiff, dead feel it has? I'm almost thinking it feels like something needs greased to fix the sticky feel.

Anybody know where the problem might lie?

Here's a pic of my new ride.
