on our starion motor the existing pickup seems to come of the pump internaly. there is a place to put on the Raider pickup but what to do with the existing pickup and hole it would leave? I have the pan and pickup from our raider but I was expecting that the pickup was originating in the same location but that is not the case.
You will have to use the Raider oil pump also.

Well on my way to becoming that eccentric old man in every town.(crazy as a s#@thouse rat) With a yard full of desireable old vehicles that tells you, Sorry they're not for sale..... Someday I'm going to fix them.

1. swap oil pans, and extend oil pickup tube approx 1".
2. remove ecu and all ecu wiring harness from truck with everything it connects to. (about an hour's job)
3. Take the dremel to the carb ecu box and open up one connector hole bigger and install starquest ecu.
4. Move firewall grommet on starquest fi harness to match carb harness (15min and some elec tape)
5. install sq harness to same clips as carb harness.
6. install sq spark box and coil
7. install sq inj resistor box near air cleaner.
8. install sq oil cooler and cut off steel lines at rubber line crimps and install new oil hose to banjo fittings with double clamps.
9. buy a Master E8000 electric fuel pump and install to round frame crossmember in front of fuel tank, and use FI fuel line and double clamps to hook to stock fuel lines.
10. install sq fuel filter and use FI fuel line and double clamps to hook to TB.
11. find an sq accel cable and mount to truck like old truck cable, but turn 1/4 circle guide tube approx 90* in plate to properly align with TB.
12. install motor.

this is why I thought we just extended the pickup...and it is the way I would like to aproach it, if possible. the starion system seems more efficient than the Raider? I could be wrong. let me know if I am.
thanks.

I've done it both ways. I think KevinC said the starion pump was better, but the truck pump is adequate, if everything is in good repair. I did it first with a starquest pump in a d50, and extended the pickup with part of the truck pickup, length just under 1". I had to swap pans when I went from d50 to raider, as the front diff clearance dent in the pan is in a different place (truck engine is further forward). I used the stock raider pump and pickup when I transplanted the motor, and had no problems (until I went 'nek with the boost one day. It was one of those "here, hold my beer and watch this" moments, and I clankeyed the engine, destroying a piston. It ran for over 3 years after the transplant, and about 5 years before.

Im running the Stock montero pump with the starion guts in it. Im getting around 75PSI around town and 35-40 PSI at a stop light. Seems to be working good, also i didnt like the way the reworked starion pick up tube sat in the pan. it was about 1.5 inches off of the pan bottom. I figured if I was hitting high revs on a steep incline I could suck air and thats a major no no. The stock on sits about 5/8 of an inch off the bottom and thats what I wanted. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

we dropped off the motor at the welders place today. he is going to use the raider and starion pickup and an extra I found today to make one good one. it will sit in the correct location and correct depth. we are also going to make a nice down pipe without the cat. Moving forward slower than I had hoped but moving forward none the less.

got the pickup back today. here are a couple pictures. you can not just add on to the starion pickup...the whole pickup must be raised to clear the front of the pan. then extended and lowered to the proper location. we also added a third support.
