Just out of curiosity, I pulled the NAPA #1627 off the shelf. And it has Denso printed on it and the cellophane stuck to the bottom of it. Just like all the Mitsu filters I have on the shelf at the house.

And I sell it over the counter for $21.99. Cheaper than that to higher volume customers. If I were you, I'd check on this NAPA part number before I bought any more of the FRAM PH6353 at $68 apiece. That's a ridiculously high price...

The filter I need has 30mm threads.

Going by thread size listings for all lube filters in the WIX catalog:

In 30x1.5mm NAPA #1627 height 5.571" OD 4.252" Oring ID 3" OD 3.4". No anti-drain back valve and no by-pass valve.
The other 30x1.5 listed is over 10" long, doubt that's it...

In 30x2.0mm, the listed numbers are 8.43" and 9.145" long, so they're probably not it either.

The 4D55 needs the anti drain back valve, as the filter is mounted horizontally. The filters without the valve are most always mounted vertical.

I have a large stash of the PH6353 filters. They come in a Fram box but they are made by Mitsubishi. If you want one they are $50 each and that includes shipping. Regular price is around $68 per filter. Let me know if your interested. I feel your pain, not only are these things really hard to find, but they cost a small fortune. These filters were only used a trucks equipped with California emmissions and they are much much a larger than the smaller filters used on the federal emmission vehicles. If I remember right they weigh 7lbs each. It's a big freakin filter. If you can't wait a a day or two for shipping, I have one sitting in Glendale at a buddy's shop I can sell ya, but you'd have to pick it up because he does not deliver.

No thanks, I just got a filter today from kragen(O'Riley)for $28.00. The other day I talked to a guy at NAPA that knew the area rep for Fram, and had it special ordered and delivered to my local O'Riley parts store.

Trust me, in the future I will try to find a way to not even pay $28 for
these filters. I am working on a modification to my extra oil filter housing to utilize a PH8A filter (cost about $4 at most stores). This filter has about the same specs as the PH6353, with the only exception being the relief valve @ 12 PSI instead of 8.

So, did you get the FRAM PH6353 or a replacement? When you said the threads were 30mm, I thought that sounded quite large for a 4 cylinder diesel. And you say that you're modifying something to accept a PH8A, but that has 3/4-16 threads. Just about the most common oil filter for many years... If you bought this filter for $28, I guess Spence got royaly screwed...

Glad to hear you got it figured out.

I would think the 4D55 uses the same filter as the 4D56.

I just changed the oil in my truck, I used a Luberfiner Filter LFP805.

You can also use Luberfiner LFP9930 or Hyundai 26300-42040 and 26300-42030.

This might be useful:

The filter I got from O'Riley is a Fram boxed Mitsubishi factory filter (black with Mitsu part number). From what I understand, Fram bought the entire stock of these filters from Mitsubishi. They are no longer available from the dealer.
Yes, I will have the extra filter housing (adapter)that I have modified to fit the PH8a filter now that I have a filter for my truck.

Good to hear you found a filter, I also hated paying high prices for these filters. About 6 years ago I found a wholesaler who was willing to sell them for $12 a piece plus shipping, but he required me to buy a minimum 50 filters plus a $250 fee for setting up an accout. I think I paid $900 for 50 filters but I came out way ahead. Wheather or not they are still in business I don't know and I really can't even remember how I found them, but it maybe worth your time to try to find a wholesaler. Also because of the size of the PH6353 filters you can go 6-10k miles on the same filter but you should still change the oil at the same interval of 3-5K miles depending on driving habits and oil.

My math computes that to $45.00 per filter. How is that "way ahead"? I can now go down to O'riley and get as many as I need for 28 bucks each including tax AND delivery (to my local store)!!
