My recommendation is to find the 83 model oil filter housing. I have it on all my 4d55's and buy oem mitsu filters for $5 Thats the smaller filter. Don't think I would recommend Rigging in a seperate filter. Kinda mickey mouse in my opionon. I had the old housing re-threaded to fit a PH8A (or equivalent), so I can get a filter anywhere for around $5.00. Not "mickey mouse" at all.

These 4d55 run very dirty and the premium filter help MAJORLY. BTW for others curious the MD069783 filter IS STILL AVAILABLE FROM MITSUBISHI as I ordered a few for $28 on DEC 28 2011 and now have them here. I do have a source for the Fram version for $12 although which is like we said before.... a factory mitsu filter in a fram box.Just wanted to prove to myself mitsu still makes them and these are fresh not old stock.

Where were you over a year ago when I needed these?? Both my friend and I(he has the exact same truck) have been using the adapted filter housings for a while with no issues. The Wix (PH8A equiv) filter is plenty big enough for this engine, and works excellent. I can get them on sale for less than $5.00 from NAPA.
