Good work!
May be a bit late for this or you wanted mech gauges but you can get OBD2 monitors that give you a real time digital readout of everything trans temp included. I like your swing away tire carrier I am going to a swing away tire carrier as well but i'll be making it flip down because my tires weigh 100lbs and i plan on going bigger with the next set.
Keep up the good work and you need to come wheeling with us one day

If it wasn't for the obvious air/fuel/ignition problems, one could live with this on Mars. This rig is a great motivational piece, thanks for the trial and error update.

I would like to hear your thoughts about a trailer, I have experience with the humvee trailers and I have seen them for sale but can't buy one yet.

the expedition trailer idea is good, but requires one to setup a base camp and hit trails (aggressive trails) without the trailer. I just couldn't find myself doing aggressive wheeling trails with something connected to my end.

putting 300-400 lbs in my roof rack isn't much better, but it keeps my overall vehicle length shorter for tight trails.

i like the trailer idea if setting up a base camp, but I probably won't ever get one.

in the future, when my kids are grown up and out of the nest, I plan to put a roof top tent on this rig and rip out the 2nd row seats for additional stowage of gear.........my wife and I will then start some intercontinental trips and possibly even over seas or 'frozen seas' across the ice to the arctic circle and back.

this is much later in my retirement years; hopefully my other 2 gen II monteros will supply me the parts to keep this SR running and well.

i got my hands on the pics we took at my brother's house.

here is the transmission skid plate, very wide, very heavy, in some aspects, it helps balance my center of gravity with the weight in my roof rack, or i like to think it helps a little bit.

here is the t-case skid plate we made to match the design of the factory skid plate; bending steel with acetayle torch is cool, but requires patience; i am glad we bent it instead of cutting and welding; overall, the plate is stronger that way.

here is a shot of my brother's 99; he installed ARB freezer, built his own drawer system off to the side, has two jerry mounts welded to the plates that originally held the jump seats, and put a 20-25 gallon water tank on the back of it all next to the 2nd row seat backs. overall, a very nice design that gives him more room that I have in my truck.

after my brother and his girlfriend burned themselves a few times in the shower, he decided to follow suit and install a thermostatic mixing valve as I did.

when you shut off the flow of water, it sits in the heat exchanger and gets to nearly boiling temperatures. when you turn the flow back on, you either wait for the hot burst to pass or get burned pretty good. other option would be to leave the flow going and waste water as you soap up.

now we don't have to waste water or get burned; this valve takes that burst of hot water and smooths it out by compensating the flow of hot and cold water at a set temperature........the valve was over 100 bucks, but worth every penny for a nice hot shower that isn't painful

red switch turns on aux fans, orange switch turns on rock lights, more on that later. toggle switch is for winch.

These guys make cool rocker switches for an AUX fan and rocker lights. They probably even have several colors to choose from and they are very reasonable.

They're called Contura switches. I get mine from www.sierraexpeditions.com who are actually located in AZ.

You can get them in a variety of light colors (blue, red, amber, etc.) and they have pre-printed labeling on them as well.
