My '89 Trooper has had weak dashboard light since the day I bought it. If they were much weaker I couldn't tell they were on. I've posted about this in the past, and the group wisdom has always come down to, "Live with it."

I was complaining to a good friend the other day, and he looked at the situation. His response was very quick. "Those are 194 bulbs. You want to replace them with 168 bulbs. The 194's are 2 candle power. The 168's are 3 candle power. They're interchangeable. Pull one out, push the other in." That's a 50% increase.

I did as he suggested. I replaced four bulbs: 2 in the speedometer and 2 in the tach. The difference is like night and day. I can actually see the needles now, read what they're telling me. I was amazed at the improvement.

This is a very easy fix, and the bang for the buck is well worth the effort.
