Thanks fellas... this car has been owned by FIVE of my buddies. Five. So I know it's history very well. It had a jdm engine swapped in, a jdm trans (sweet unit too, with nice short throw shifter), and a newer rear end (from a talon) with LSD. Two of the five were caraudio guys, so it has a nice stereo, and a remote starter/alarm combo.

The front fenders need replacing (that cladding held the sand and water enough for rust through), but the rest of the body should clean up pretty good. All windows (and sunroof) work, all electrics seem to be good, and it came with a red-top which is holding a charge perfectly fine. Brakes may need attention (it's been sitting for a while), and it definitely needs wheels/tires. Other than that, just some cleaning, and I'll hopefully have a good, fun DD to save the truck some highway miles.

As soon as I opened the door (once I got it in the garage), Mitsu hopped right in. I hope that's a good sign?

Nice to know the track record of your vehicle.

Those garage walls could use some insulation, eh?

Hi Phil,
Check what transmission is in the car, originally it would have a W5M31 gearbox that uses a 2.86 rear ratio. Since it has a 3.54 ratio now I sure hope it got a W5M33 gearbox swapped into it.

Cheers, Charlie

Well, I'm back from 2 weeks out east ("home" so to speak). Back three days and just bought ANOTHER Galant. This one had a tensioner fail, and I got it for a song. Towed it home this morn behind the Paj, on a dolly (rear drive shaft disco'ed). There is def something cool about pulling a Mitsu behind a Mitsu. (pics later)

Between the two, I should be able to put together something pretty good, and maybe have anough left over to build a turbo motor over the winter months...? We'll see.

Turtle version, but I am gonna pull it's engine before I send it to the scrapyard, and set about turboing it over the winter, I think? If all goes well, I'll swap it into the good car next summer.

Here's my garage, as of the day before yesterday:

And here is a gratuitous Pajero background shot, just for fun...

Put about 400kms on it yesterday. I'm chasing down a few vibrations: We had to retension the timing and balance belts (shop that did it for the PO didn't do it correctly), so that got rid of one vibe. The exhaust had three broken hangers, so that too care of another, but I have one more that I can't track down right now - kind of a rattly vibe that you can feel in the dash. Other than that, it runs/starts/handles really good so far.

But I still prefer driving the truck.

Got about 500kms on this thing now, as I work the bugs out. My truck has sat since camping last weekend, so today I took it for groceries... Don't worry, its going camping/wheeling this weekend...

Most of the issues have been solved (there weren't many) but one is annoying me - a really bad vibe/rattle at 1650rpms which occurs in neutral, in gear, under load or coasting... checked engine mounts, heat shields, etc. We think that the shop that did the timing belt for the previous owner put the balance shaft in out of phase... so in we go again to check for sure...

Otherwise, I think it's going to be a great addition to the Mitsu 4wd fleet at my house!

It is not uncommon to find that someone lined up the timing mark on the oil pump without checking what phase the balance shaft was in. One gets a one in three chance of getting it right.

It was the balance shaft out of phase... everything is SMOOOOOTH now!

In the mean time, I pulled some more parts and then hooked up the parts car for it's second last journey (to a buddy's, till we pull the engine for an eventual turbo project). This time, I got a pic of a Mits pulling a Mits!

Meanwhile, the roadworthy one got new mudflaps . (Pic to follow.)
