Snagged a cheap one today not running. 87 raider gold auto lsd and headlight squirters plsu bouncy seat .

Engine seems seized possibly do to rust from a cracked head or spun bearing. I'll probably pop the head off it tomorrow and see whats up. If worse comes to worse I have a turbo engine sitting around. I might run it na for a bit.
before I decide to turbo. I didnt want a auto but this was the only decent deal around and I liked the color.

I'll probably 5 speed it with the trans I have, or get it running then sell it then buy a 5 speed as I dont really care for doing 5 speed swaps in mitsubishi's. Most likely I will just 5 speed this though.

First plan is to get it driving again.

I already have a sr air locker with weld on perches ready to swap in. I figure once its driving I will 5 speed it and hopefully sell off the auto stuff. A v6 front setup will come laterl with lsd for the time being until work picks back up in the fall at that point I will go for a aus locker up front. I'm giong to shoot for some older enkei 15inch with 33s. Oh and of course turbo swap.

I'm going to go pickup the rest of the 5 speed parts I dont have tomorrow at the jyard. My list so far since i already have a complete trans is as follows

-clutch pedal, brake pedal
-master n slave + line
-front driveshaft
-rear driveshaft I assume the length is different from the 5 speed and I know the slide yoke is different
-center console boot area

Anyone know if the auto crossmember n manual crossmember bolt into the same location?

The crossmembers bolt in the same location, the auto has a rearward extension for the mount.

As me being a 5 speed man too ..I have all the parts and sub assimblies for my Raider ready to drop in for my new "Gravel Raider "..... But the Raiders and auto and I'm still toying if I like it as an auto trans ...(Still can't get the sucker to turn at speed with the auto trans..???.. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />.... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />...Maddning ..lol...)..So I may see if someone would trade for a 5 speed or sell it out right ... So I'm just fixing her back to good running stock for now ..If I dont want my auto Raider I realy need to get it to someone who does .

Trans swaps are to big a pain in my book ...

YEah they are a real pain. I've done 3 in random mitsu and they are never very fun since mitsu seems to use diff firewalls, or at least doesnt punch the holes ofr the master and diff tunnels ie starion.

Wish you guys were on this side of the country. I've been wanting to go auto. Nice find.

I've read the automatic is more suitable for a turbo than the 5-speed. I've passed on some auto swbs because of the increased gutlessness. However...

they are, but I figure I can get some life out of this 100k trans I have and then swap in the starion guts into one downt he road.

I picked up some wheels n tires today. Got a good deal even though they are a little bigger than I wanted to go. enkei 15x10 with 33 12.5 tires. Not much of a mudding tread but should be ok for putting around trails n sand and what not. I'll get some pictures of them mounted tomorrow when if igure out where the hell I put my jack handle.

I did a little work on the engine today. heads ready to come off, but I had to go get those wheels so I never got around to it. It's beem around 100 degrees out and it's not real fun to work in the tiny apartment garage.

I tried turning the engine over with my proto brreaker bar and a big sleaver to no avail other than tightening the crank bolt. This is after I sprayed a ton of kroil in the cylinders. I'm guessing either bearings are seized up, or allt he cylinders are rusted big time. Hopefully its just cylinders, but eh. I'll find out tomorrow. if the engine is toast, I will probably just turbo it. I have a turbo engine I picked up the other day along wit a few wiring harness's laying around. I might toss on a weber 32/36 with the turbo block for the time being just so I can move it around as I dont have a spare turbvo and money is tight.

It would not surprise me that someone ignored the rattling noise from a non adjusted secondary chain till it wore the teeth off and lost oil pressure. The bottom end tightens up pretty quick then.

yeah who knows. Looks like ther was antifreeze on 2 and 3 plugs, and the papers she gaveme says they did timing and bearings at one point, but then there is a deal that says power punch so it's probably crap.

Would a 88 auto starion torque converter be any better tan the stock 87 raider converter?
