Installed a Weber today, what a world of difference. Best performance upgrade for the dollar especially when replacing a worn-out Mikuni.

I've got some engine run-on (dieseling) now after the Weber swap. I'm thinking these contributors: 1. Idle speed - I'm now about 900 rpm - with the old Mikuni was around 800 rpm - never dieseled. 2. My distributor has 2 ports on the vacuum advance - I connected them to a "T" fitting and then to the Weber single port - I'm guessing this is the major contributor - probably timing advanced to far even at idle. 3. Idle fuel mixture - I'll mess with that in the morning. Anyone know about the correct way to hook up the vacuum advance?

May have solved the dieseling problem. Lowered the idle rpm to 600 and adjusted the idle mixture screw until engine runs as smooth as possible at the set rpm. Its pretty smooth and no dieseling.

missed your other posts, but I did the same thing. I put the idle around 600 when in gear, adjusted idle mixture and have no problems. I read that some webers need a fuel cut off solenoid to prevent dieseling, but i have not needed to invest in that.

Hey Fast Eddy, I just installed a Weber 38/38 and didn't use a second regulator to the Weber. However I'm having issues with getting the thing to idle below 1K (still working on the vacuum hoses) which leads me to ask you about the two intake lines on the stock distributor: Do I plug one or use both? I'm thinking that my idle issue is caused by the vacuum, not the regulator pressure.

Hey PlH, I just installed a Weber 38/38 and have the same question. On this post you asked the question about using a vacuum on both ports on the distributor advance, but I didn't find an answer to you, so could you tell me what you did with both ports? Did you swap out to a single port?

Hi socal1200r, thanks for the post, I'm having the exact same issue with my new 38/38 Weber. I'm still working on the Carburetor since my Monty lost it's transmission in IL on the way to Virginia. On the way to IL I was just slapping the peddle to bring it down. Thanks again and will let you know how it works.

It's been a LONG time since I had a carby 2.6, but I don't remember a two hose dizzy. I'd assume one is advance and one is retard, but I bet you need the device box stuff to make it work. Is it maybe the high altitude stuff?

Here is a photo of my Weber install. I'm using the low pressure Holley regulator set at about 2.5 psi. I also have the altitude distributor. I joined both lines with a "T" an connected to the carb. Added 2 throttle return springs to get the idle consistently down to 600 rpm.

Did my first longer road trip last week. All highway miles at 65 to 75 mph. Tackled moderate rolling interstate hills with ease. Even passed a few people on hills! never possible with the old Mikuni. Found "real 100% gas" at a Shell station. Grabbed a fill up of the 91 octane stuff... drum roll..... 20.4 mpg (odometer corrected) pushing my 33 x 12.5 MTZs. I'm in shock.
