Raymond, go to a paint store that sells auto paint. They will have what you want and more. So don't get carried away.

Bummer. I think we should have an ugly-slider-welds contest.

But, I truly believe I would win hands down. Oh, and mine have held just fine.

Looking good there Ray. I think I remember you mentioning ordering a different size than the standard 68" that JohnnyB got (and others). Actually, I suppose I should ask if you even ordered the Trail Gear sliders. Yes, I know I can find the post if I dig, but I have been talking to fabricators for months now and getting nowhere so I can't seem to muster the energy to search for a length reference.
I do like the look of yours though and would love to get some on mine finally. Tell me what and where to order! Thank you

Trailgear... :^)

Oh and for future reference, pretty much all my mods are in my build thread which is in the reference thread at the top of the forum so no need to even use the search engine.

In fact I put links to many build threads there in addition to mine.

Thank you for the quick response. I am very familiar with your build thread and several others. It wasn't in the build threads though where I thought I saw you mention ordering a size other than the standard 68". I also thought JohnnyB or someone else commented on the size and you responded that you had a plan. I am not seeing any sizable difference between yours and the other Trailgear installs I have seen (they look good!) so either your plan was very subtle, or I have a terrible memory and am just making this all up!

No worries and nothing's wrong with your memory. I thought I could use a longer setup to get better coverage and found I was wrong. Luckily Trail-Gear was more than willing to exchange the longer sliders for the shorter ones even though it was many months since I had purchased them.

Thank you very much for clearing that up. Of course now it's a bit moot. Seems I am just cursed. Now Trail Gear says they are out of the right size. 10 fabricators local and out of state, none of whom call me back, and the one place everyone else relied upon can't even come through for me....

when are they going to get more?

as for fabricators calling back... yeah many I've worked with aren't very good about cust. svc. It's a good reason to choose a different one imho.

Updated... pics of sealer & finished paint...

Found the seam sealer at a commercial auto paint store in town. It wasn't available from any of the parts store's paint sections (Kragen, O'Reilly, Pep boys, etc.)

It's not exactly what I was expecting. It's more of a paste than a paint as you can see in this pic taken before I used it.
[Linked Image]

I sealed each of the areas where water might penetrate and not dry up quickly, and where rust could set in.
[Linked Image]

I then reprimed and repainted all these areas after it had dried. Here's a pic I almost forgot to take prior to completing the paint job. As you can see, you can paint directly onto the seam sealer and it's recommended that you do.
[Linked Image]

Next I reshot the paint on both sliders making sure I had a decent coat. I used Rustoleum Hammer finish.

Here's a closeup of the results.

I'll probably repaint my front and rear bumpers this color as well, I like it so much.

Ah, now it's time for a pint of Guiness!!
