Sounds like fun Chris

Scott, if the drive shafts become available that would be mighty kind of you 3" exhaust sounds like a good bit of boost. I've been thinking more and more about turboing mine. Just 5-6psi. That's supposed to net 50 odd HP if done right.

Good call on putting up a wanted add. I'll post one on Miata.net, trubomiata etc and I think there's a spec miata forum it's there?

Angelo, I'll be there. They might be doing another series like this in the fall

Last run of the night. Reaction time wasn't too great and that blinkin' Camaro was so loud! I thought it was plain rude

Yeah that will get you in the 150-160 neighborhood. BEGI has their Shanghai kit with the chinese turbo, non-intercooled which is okay if you're only staying at 5-6 psi, for under $1500. Their base kit with a Garrett turbo is more like $2K, but if your goals are modest I'd stick with the chinacharger really. They've been holding up well for people lately, you wouldn't exactly be stressing it, and they're cheap to replace if yours ever craps its pants. One thing I'd recommend about those base BEGI S kits is to ditch the band-aid fuel management (rising rate FPR) and get a real ECU (Megasquirt, ~$300 if you DIY) and some bigger injectors instead.

You know about m.net, and the SM forum is at specmiata.com. Fair warning about miataturbo.net... you will get banned if you just join there to post in the classifieds. You are expected to make a semi-detailed intro post in the meet & greet section, and you have to have 10 posts to use the classifieds. If it is detected that you are spamming up your post count to use the classifieds, you will be banned. They have to keep a heavy hand on the ban hammer there or it gets absolutely inundated with idiots posting gems like "ZOMG gyz I bot this mad tyte Miata how much booostz can i run and wutz the best trubo LOL." But if you make an intro thread and mention you took it to the drag strip and casually converse about that, you'll be just fine. Oh, and expect some gay jokes and occasional e-thuggery.

X 1 zillion.

Been there, done that, helped write the book, got the t-shirt, the lesson AND a blown engine (broken piston rings and lands from detonation). In fairness, it probably was caused by a weak fuel pump, but the rising rate regulator needs a really good pump to flow enough fuel at the pressures required to deliver enough fuel through smaller injectors.

Advice noted and much appreciated Always liked to idea of DIY'ing a megasquirt. Plenty of injector options for a 1.6L Miata

81.7mph and 16.8 sec 1/4 mile.

That's about the same results I got the first time I went to a drag strip..... but it was 1958 and I was driving a bone stock 1951 Ford coupe with a flathead V8........ and that was before I rebuilt the engine. In fairness, I think I did lighten the car a bit by removing the hub caps.

Frank

>>>*I thought I was the old coot around here, jeez...1958?

*My first time was 1964, in a brand new Palomar red Impala SS with a 327, 250 H/P three speed on the tree.

G/S stick, I won the race too, turning 15.10 @ 89 MPH. By the end of that year (with a FEW minor changes ALL bone stock...*of course.. ) she was running 14.40's at 98.

I got hooked, next was a 1961 Corvette that would pull the front wheels and ran in the low 12's, then a D/Dragster that ran 9.51 @ 151 mph. I managed to set the National record for the class at Woodburn one day, got it taken away from me just 15 minutes later by a twin engine D car, two pontiacs in the thing.

Too slow, I ended up in a twin engine dragster myself, supercharged, 392" Mopar hemi's, over 210 MPH.

Even more fun was the 22" minibike with the Mac chain saw engine my brother and I "borrowed" from our Dad's saw when he wasn't looking. That thing ran 9.20 in the 1/8th mile, not scary back then since I was invulnerable but now I shudder at even thinking of riding that.

*I actually DID ride that thing, God! The track owner at Balboa in Eugene came over to us and said, "Hey, guys. Let's talk...."

*Watch out! Drag racing gets you hooked, then no food, no milk for the baby and candles to read by at night!....*LOL**....*EB

*Beats the he** outa me!....*LOL**...

Yep, I think I have the honor.

That '51 Ford was my first car. I started driving on the highways at the age of 13 with a learners permit. When I turned 14 and got my drivers license, I bought that '51 Ford for $175. I got it home, took a shower and started out the door to go riding. My father stopped me and asked where I thought I was headed. When I told him, he said I wasn't going anywhere in that car until I rebuilt the engine..... and if I did, then I would be qualified to drive what I could fix.

Prior to that, I had been rebuilding all of the lawn mowers that came into his store for repair, so I figured it couldn't be so bad if I could figure out how to get it out of the car and onto the ground (we didn't have a garage or a good block & tackle tree). So, I got everything loose, removed the hood, called a friend who worked for a filling station and asked him to bring the old boom wrecker to my house. We backed the wrecker through the neighbor's back yard to mine and pulled the engine. I put it on a piece of plywood and rebuilt right there on the ground with a hand hone and whatever assorted tools I could find...... didn't even know what a torque wrench was.

Dang if that engine didn't run as good as a new one when I put it back together and I rode for a while in it later with Offenhauser heads and 3-2bbl carbs until somebody wanted it worse than me and I bought a '55 Bel Air 2dr hardtop for $325 that underwent some serious surgery and became the uncatchable rabbit for a lot of local and highway patrol hound dogs. Now THAT one was one I wish I had kept. The idle quality made it look like one of those hydraulic Mexican jumping bean cars. It regularly terrorized the 409/427 '63/'64 Impalas - at least on top end.

Jeez At that age I was riding my bike round the countryside (no learners permit until 17 in the UK. Probably a good thing ). I could fix that OK, but a car engine was a complete mystery to me then
