Lloyd, we've discussed this many times over the phone but i think it's time to mall cruise the X or sell it. Nothing but a montero will handle your abuse, not even the legendary 80 series period. But I'll bet for the price you could sell the X you could build your blister fender, get it up to date on the maintenance, buy 4.90's, front locker, aussie gears or Atlas, armor and a winch and still have money left over. We'll build it

Manufacturers dont seem to honor warranties any more. I sued over the rear diff, the rest I just have to suck up. Ok, they did replace timing guides under warranty. I can live with that, every vehicles has problems. But geesh. I am just amazed at how much better built Monteros are. Just wish the engine and transmissions were not so hard to get rebuilt right. But otherwise, I just cannot emagine there is anything stronger for off-road. It is too bad they gave up the ship in 96 or so.(went to smaller engine and terrible gearing) This would be awhile if I did this, a year or so. Finding the right rig for the right price and saving up 10-12K for needed upgrades. But 10-12 is what I was about to toss at the X. So another 3-6K to buy another vehicle I might be able to count on off-road. Need to get back in the loop and confirm prices:
1. Front ARB
2. Body Lift
3. 5:29s
4. T/case gears
5. Tank Lift
6. Bumpers
7. Skids
8. Sliders(maybe I can modify the Xterras)
9. Install winch off Xterra
10. Install extra Battery off Xterra
11. Install compressor and tank off Xterra
12. Install shower off Xterra
13. Install CB off Xterra
I know I am missing some stuff....

for 12K, you should be able to Buy a Gen 2.5, AND pimp it out.

for 12k I would have a Blown motor Gen2.5 with a 98 5.7 vortec, 4L60, and Terralow NP241 with a freaking 60 up front on coils.

Hey Lloyd,

Sorry to hear about your Xterra issues but seriously just get a Montero. Good to see you back on the wire.

If it were me, I'd do it the same. Except, I'd likely go with a Duramax and the Allison... Man, how sweet would it be to have a blister fender with the clatter of a bigass honking diesel...

Fasteddy's advice is occasionally sound...
