I'm a manual guy too, but my $700 volvo is an auto and I've been enjoyed sipping coffee all the way to work without interruptions I'll probably end up going 700r4, a stronger fresh trans with new guts is probably worth the extra coin, Toyota parts are hard to come by down here (most get exported to Mexico) and GM stuff is alot more readily available. w56 rebuild down the line would be a pain and probably exceed the initial cost of the 700r4/adapter...

Spent about 3hrs tonight after work pulling the 22re apart, dang radiator bolts were 30 mins of that...
Couldn't see a clear break in the gasket but there is a scratch on the head into the sealing area of #4. Not sure if it was there or if I did it when I tried to lift the head off and forgot the coolant hose on the lower intake Will at least need to get it surfaced as the scratch catches a fingernail, trying to decide whether to just get an assembled EB head or have this one fixed as the issues I was having could be a crack in it somewhere. Then of course comes the decision of whether the o/s valves are worth the extra $100 to go along with the 261c I might as well get to tide me over until 4.3 swap time....

700r4 is the best option for this swap .. IMO ..

My EB goodies came in yesterday afternoon and I got straight to work Spent most of the day today (played hookie from work) cleaning stuff and reassembling, was hoping to get it up and running today but 8:30-4:30 in 105 degree heat has worn me out, plus I'm taking the fiance out for dinner so I should probably get the RTV out of my sideburns... Couple of pics of the teardown I did last week: Timing cover, accessories etc. on: Street RV head: Beginning of assembly: Timing cover, accessories etc. on: Parting shot of the 4.3 and the 5.3 destined for the Fiance's Volvo 740 Wagon ![[Linked Image]](http://a.imageshack.us/img508/8258/p8050120.jpg)

Got it back together today but couldn't get it started and didn't have time to mess with it, think the disty is not in the right spot. It also leaked a little bit of coolant out of the driver's side of the block when I filled it with coolant, not too much and it stopped after a second but still has me worried. Will hopefully have some more time in the garage tomorrow...

Back up and running, had the disty 180 out (think I've done that every time I've had it apart). No more leaks, but I think my thermostat is acting up so I'm going to replace that tonight. It only opens for like 5 seconds at a time (noted while watching coolant flow in the rad with the cap off) and the temp gauge is acting like there's air trapped in the system. Hopefully that will fix it up but I guess we'll see... Haven't seen a noticeable power increase but I think the EFI is still relearning, may just give me another reason to put the 4.3 in

Not too much of an update on the 4.3 swap, 22re is running well with the new EB goodies and has a bit more pulling power. Still gathering parts/info on the swap, mainly something to eliminate those pesky potential oil pan interference issues Looks like a SAS is in my near future. Went wheelin for my bachelor party last weekend and got the bug again, uploaded some pics here: http://img690.imageshack.us/g/19688480.jpg/

Brian, appreciate the input. Opinions on the w56 seem split, I wouldn't be beating on it but would be towing an 18' boat on a regular basis. Not sure how heavy the boat is, but it will definitely add some load to the tranny. if you want to stay 5-speed, do a R150 (I don't like the 151 as a replacement due to shifter location). Will only add the cost of the R150-tcase adapter as the rest of the components should be of similar cost. You *WILL* have to move your center console if you position the engine first. I did this on my 86 and ended up moving the console BACK about 3/4". Moved the mounting brackets and everything. Very simple, hard to tell it ws even done. And allowed me the opportunity to put the engine exactly where I wanted it to be to use a clutch fan. I used to be a manual guy, but I'm getting lazy as hell. Hey Brian, leaning more towards the r150 as they seem to be fairly easy to locate, may even run the chain tcase at first and then get the v6 to gear tcase adapter down the road. Any idea if the r150/tcase combo the same length as a w56/tcase? No real swap progress, been working on the house lately but hopefully after the master bath is done I'll get rollin. Boat is winterized as of last weekend so I'm free to tear it apart at any time Did pick up some Downey swap mounts and some 4.3 swap headers (came out of a rolled runner with a 4.3) on the cheap though. Not sure if I'll use either one but figured I can resell and make $$ if I don't...

Looks like i'll be goin r150, AA is having a sale so I picked up a chain drive to gear drive tcase adapter today. Found a trans for $400 too, not sure if its a decent deal or not though...
