Getting the Wheeling Fever

I finally got to take the montero up north. We went to Christopher Creek. The Montero overheated, or at least increased in temp significantly, on the up and back. Each time on a long hill climb. By the way, it was a bit gutless up the hills as well. 55mph was a strain. Is my transmission overheating? This happened, even when I pulled off the thermostat.
