Damn! I made the mistake of parking my 2001 Gen-3 next to OffRoaders '96 Gen2 then looked back.. Sure mine is bone-stock, but does it have to look so much less intimidating? Looks like I may have to get a lift on this. Since I have IFS I know this will cost a bit but is getting used lift kits a bad idea? ![[Linked Image]](http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4132/4838660390_2f9062cdde.jpg)

Don Henley said in a song, "never look back." Good advice after seeing the pics. Hmmmm. Used suspension lift pieces. I used to buy used Sway-a-way torsion bars, never had any problems. Control arms, coil springs, in my head seems like a bad idea. How could you tell spring rate still in them? Control arms could be bent, unless it was obvious. How would you know? Used body lifts, sure np.

Not sure if you can find a used lift for the Montero simply because hardly any ever lifts them.

I used to buy used Sway-a-way torsion bars, never had any problems. Are they not part of the suspension. Control arms, coil springs, in my head seems like a bad idea. Do you know how many of us have upgraded our Gen 1 suspension with Gen 2 used suspension? Suddenly feeling less than manly due to built-up rig envy At least you don't have to carry a ladder/step stool for your dear Mom or your older friends.

He was asking about lifted parts, right? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Control arms, coil springs, in my head seems like a bad idea. How could you tell spring rate still in them? Control arms could be bent, unless it was obvious. How would you know? Used body lifts, sure np.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This make no sense to me. Do you know how many of us have upgraded our Gen 1 suspension with Gen 2 used suspension? Gen 2 stock used suspension parts. not very likely, but yes, it is possible, that they could be bent. The chance of used off-road parts being bent or damaged is a lot better than STOCK parts. That was my point. I should have made it clearer. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I used to buy used Sway-a-way torsion bars, never had any problems.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Are they not part of the suspension. Yes they are part of the suspension. For more clarification, I would buy my buddies VW dune buggies rear torsion bars and put them into lowered street bugs. I hope that clarifies a bit. I tried answering this the first time while I was in the waiting room at the Doctor's.

If you want to lift it you are going to have to begin a pretty invasive surgery IMO. The front are rear axles are mounted to two seperate sub-frames and they can be lifted. I have seen pics of it from over in Asia but I have yet to see anyone stateside do it.
I have got under there and looked and would LOVE to do it but.....I decided that I didnt want to put out the extra work that it would require to do it. So I just lifted mine with the OME springs and its gone everywhere I have pointed it and without too much trouble. Just my .02 cents.
