You also need to let the trans oil cooler drop down or at least it's easier if you do. You don't need to disconnect the lines. Just unbolt it, let it drop a bit and support it while you work on the fan.

10-12 years seems to be the typical life span of these fans so if you get one from a junk yard make sure you can return it because it's highly likely not working. I just did this last weekend. I tested it in the parking lot and took it straight back <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> No worky.

Here's what I did since replacement fans are so expensive. You don't have to use the stock shroud though. It works OK, but is loud running as a push fan. Also, at 650cfm I don't think it's enough. You might want to try and get a 1000cfm fan from JC Whitney.
