Cheer up! We're gonna be the cleanest 3rd world country in the world.
At least right up the point that the riots start and people begin to burn everything in sight.
On a more serious note, it's really interesting to note the historical shift in the economic base of the nation.
Prior to World War Two, especially during the depression, there was a huge population shift from the midwest and south to the west coast, especially California...because that's where the last remaining jobs were.
Today, as we enter the second great depression, the shift is exactly the opposite. Now the south has become the last economic bastion on the country (especially Texas) and people are relocating from the west coast, especially California, to the east.
Why? It's a simple matter of people following the jobs. When jobs are plentiful, people stay where they are or move to where they want to live...better climate, smaller communities, or whatever. When jobs are scarce, as they are now, people have no choice to but to move and follow the jobs, no matter where they are. Even if means moving to god aweful parts of the country (no offense).
As to why the jobs are there...that's a whole other topic. But one thing is for sure...they aren't the same high paying jobs that they used to be. There's a reason the last of American industry is relocation to the southern states and one of those major reasons is lower wages and anti-union laws. Think of the American south as American's China or Mexico, because that's exactly what it is.
But the fact remains. That's where America's economy will make its last stand. In those states where whatever industry that didn't move out of the country decided to relocate.
As for the rest of us....get your cardboard box and camping stove, while you still can.
