Getting the Wheeling Fever
Russ, Good find! The rep finally got back to me. Here is what he said about these bars:

'82-'89 Montero/Raider (D26mm x L50.38") = P/N SWA1726
'90 - '94 Montero (D27.5mm x L53.80") = P/N SWA1737
'95 - Today Montero (D27.5mm x 51.40") = P/N SWA1739

They are out of the 1726, and the 1737 is the only set with the deal since they are discontinued.

So, let's start over and see who is still interested in a set. Reply to this post if you still want a set, knowing that they are only 1990-1994.

Remember, if we can get over 10 people, we can at least get them for about $110. The more the merrier!

I didn't realize that the '90+ torsion bars were 3"+ longer than the '89 bars, but Hollander shows the earlier production bars to fit only through '89, so I guess there is a difference since SAW is also showing a different part.

I'm wondering if '90 or later front control arms were installed along with compatible adjusters if the '90+ bars will work on an '89 truck...... or is there a difference in the location of the adjuster cross member?

The REALLY weird thing is that SAW shows a '90-94 Raider <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" /> with a bar length of 53 13/16" and the Montero '90-2000 bar to be 51 7/16".

It could also have something to do with the switch from the leaf springs to the coils in the rear, in which case the 90-93 bars might fit 89 models that came with coils (V6)since both setups (4cyl leafs,6cyl coils) were offered in the 89 models that could lead to confusion...I'll see if I can compare my 89 tomy 91...Wont be able to be very accurrate w/o removing the bar but should be able to tell if there's a couple inches difference.

They're a bit off with these p/n's & years.
All gen I's tb's had the same torsion bar part numbers ('til 91).
All gen II's 3.0L's tb's had the same part numbers until 95.
All gen II's tb's after 95 had the same part numbers regardless of the engine size.

Using our VIN number repository & the Mitsu ASA program, here are the mitsu part numbers for the oem torsion bars...

GEN I BARS (manual or auto tranny)
88 2.6: MB176525 left bar; MB176526 rt bar
89 3.0: MB176525 left bar; MB176526 rt bar
91 3.0: MB176525 left bar; MB176526 rt bar

GEN II BARS (manual or auto tranny)
92 SR: MB633892 left bar; MB633893 rt bar
93 LS: MB633892 left bar; MB633893 rt bar
94 LS: MB633892 left bar; MB633893 rt bar
94 SR: MB932017 left bar; MB932018 rt bar
95 LS: MB633892 left bar; MB633893 rt bar
95 SR: MB932017 left bar; MB932018 rt bar
96 LS: MB932017 left bar; MB932018 rt bar

According to the part numbers you listed, they're the same in '91 as the earlier trucks.

For our purpose, I don't think there would be enough spring rate difference to worry about in the front on any Gen1 - SWB or LWB. Even if the later LWB models have a slightly stiffer bar than the SWB, it shouldn't matter and if anything, might be a better choice for any '89 SWB - particularly if it has larger tires and/or a heavier bumper or winch.

The mounting receivers for the bar ends might be different and the length may be different, but maybe it's possible to overcome that - if needed.

Justice might be correct that the differentiation in length could be the coil vs. leaf spring rear setup - or it could be that the '92 year was the changeover. I'm interested in what he finds on the '89/'91 comparison. Then. the question might be how to modify the rear bar mounts and perhaps the front bar receivers to use the Gen2 bars in a Gen1.

Doing a quick measurement of the length only, the length of my 89's bars appear to be the same as the 91's.
