according to caps the part number for a left torsion bar for my 89 LWB is MB176525.

Cross referencing the OE part online at seems to show that it is the same for montero's of years 1983-1991, whether 2.6, 3.0, LWB or SWB.

TORSION BAR-LH

It is a little confusing but I get from it is that the gen I sway-away bars for North American Montero's would be from 1983-1991.

David you're right about the shipping, but with the reduced price it is an awesome addition to a20 year old vehicle. Even with shipping.

You bet they are I've owned a set..Shipping numbers or not ..You all crank your T-bars a lot and it really helps stop the T-bar chop the the OEM cranked bars do ..Stock bars would really get my 4x4 truck to deflect really bad if I hit something real hard at speed when I was motocrossing the truck on fast gravel ...Would just soak up the hole and keep going after the S/W bars ...

since the initial price quote seems to be just for the gen2 bars, can we get prices for the gen1? Or did I misread the part number the deal applies to?

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Don't want to leave you guys hanging, but I haven't heard back from the Swayaway rep yet. I may just have to go over there again. I will let you know as soon as I get more info.
Thanks to all of you for the tech information.

A quick run thru showed 5 of the part # on sale. There are 3 91's which appear could be either. Two are definately early LWB. And 9 Gen 1 SWB. And MiMitsu had interest in a couple but he's got a lot of cars, couldn't guess what he wanted.

30% better spring rate than stock, can make for one rough road ride, but good for me because I like to jump over stuff! Also beneficial if you have added weight up front (bull bar, winch, etc.).

'82-'89 Montero/Raider (D26mm x L50.38") = P/N SWA1726
'90 - '94 Montero (D27.5mm x L53.80") = P/N SWA1736
'95 - Today Montero (D27.5mm x 51.40") = P/N SWA1739

I know that #1726 & #1736 are available at 4x4 Wholesalers (suspension:dodge). Expensive poop! It has been rumored that you can purchase directly through Sway-A-Way.

You can put me down for a set of gen2 bars. I need them bad as my stock bars are maxed out. After adding the arb bumper and winch the front dropped about 1in. Need to get the front back up to match the back.
