fasteddy? FrankR? anyone else? Tried bypassing the thermo switch on the water block and no joy soooo, gotta be the relay or solenoid or hopefully NOT the servo motor for the OD.
Looking for the cheap fix first, but can't remember where the relay is, anyone know off the top of their head? Thanks in advance.

Fuse #3 carries the circuit. Check the fuse. Check the O/D switch on the shifter (OFF/continuity, ON/no continuity). Check the harness connector from the switch.
OD/OFF relay is behind the glove box.

How did you bypass the switch? It's a ground path switch, so you should have grounded it to "bypass" it.

The Mitsu bastards hid the relay very well. It's above the right hand kick plate above the ECU. If you get a mirror & look really hard .. you can see the screw that mounts it. I went down the same path as you; I ended up replacing the OD solenoid(only $395 from Toyota) . I think some of the guys on the wire may have a used 1. Good luck!

wrapped a wire around the spade end, replaced the single wire over the top of it and grounded the wire FE. My understanding is that THAT *should* remove the therm switch from the equation.

Frank Frank, I'm cycling the OD OFF light in the instrument cluster by hitting the button on the shifter. Am I wrong in assuming that means the OD switch is working? seer

Well, no wonder I didn't see it, thanks but could you tell me what it looks like? There's actually several 'relayish' looking things hiding back there behind the glove box LOL. One of em is lettered and black, several inches square. Seems pretty big for relay, looks more like some kind of circuit board carrying ecu type thing. LOL. Appreciate the help guys, trying to get my niece on the road with this thing, everything else working great then while doing road test noticed I wasn't getting 4th. Seer

IIRC, the od off relay is a larger box, 'cause it's got several dingleberry things in it, those ziggy zaggy 'lectron things, but it's been a while since I looked at the circuit diagram for it...
Hey seer, I've got some Arkansaw jokes for ya'. State trooper stops an Arky and asks him if he has any ID. " 'bout whut?" the arky replies...(yeah, I know, you can substitute AL for AR pretty much in any of 'em...)

Frank, I'm cycling the OD OFF light in the instrument cluster by hitting the button on the shifter. Am I wrong in assuming that means the OD switch is working? That should mean the switch is good. The relay has 5 wires connected to it: Black is full-time ground. Blue/White is temperature switched ground and should show continuity to ground when the temperature switch closes (test wiring in between temp switch and relay by shunting the switch to ground at the thermostat housing). Black/White is power to the OD/OFF solenoid valve on the transmission (check wiring by shunting temperature switch, IGN in RUN, transmission in D, OD switch ON.... should be power to solenoid valve). Those 3 are the main OD control connections. There's also a Red and a Blue/red wire that go to the flasher and A/T temp circuits. Frank
