Frank, I'm cycling the OD OFF light in the instrument cluster by hitting the button on the shifter. Am I wrong in assuming that means the OD switch is working?

That should mean the switch is good.

The relay has 5 wires connected to it:

Black is full-time ground.

Blue/White is temperature switched ground and should show continuity to ground when the temperature switch closes (test wiring in between temp switch and relay by shunting the switch to ground at the thermostat housing).

Black/White is power to the OD/OFF solenoid valve on the transmission (check wiring by shunting temperature switch, IGN in RUN, transmission in D, OD switch ON.... should be power to solenoid valve).

Those 3 are the main OD control connections. There's also a Red and a Blue/red wire that go to the flasher and A/T temp circuits.

Frank

Ok Frank, I see all those wires coming out of the box, after screwing around for an hour got the darn screws out, and the relay box out where i can clean contacts etc. PITA. (as usual)..
then I pulled the plates on the bottom of the trk, found what I "think", "hope", 'pray' is the solenoid...what i'm looking at is drivers side of the tranny, sitting vertical on side of the case on top of a ledge which I presume is where the valve body is located. Before pulling that, I went chasing the wires. This "solenoid' has a black rubber cap and a heavily wrapped wire going in from the front at 90 degrees to solenoid body up on the top. Can't tell if its one or two going in there, chased it forward a bit and it joins another wrapped wire, goes to a tie and starts heading up over the bellhousing, where it is chopped clean off LOL.Looks like its been cut with a nipper, there are two wires, one pink or light red, the other black. Having a drink before I try to go find out where the other end of the 'chop' is. Please tell me I'm on the right wires and that I have indeed found the solenoid. I can't find a picture of the thing anywhere.
