91 Monty....daughter has been driving it for months and I just now found out maint reqd light is on. Engine idles fine and drives good but stumbles when a quick acceleration is needed. Leaky valve covers....shes says it shifts funny when AC is on. I just found this out because she wore rear drum down to the metal (this should show her resp. level). It only has NINETY thousand original miles. Soon as I can find her another car I'm taking it back!!!! Well guess what I'm asking is for some leads on what sets that light off and how do I check the codes. I'm new to the six cylinder and bad with the search thingie so I apologize for that. Thanks for the help.

Clarence,

The light can be turned off easily. Behind the speedometer, the plastic cover comes off to expose the rear of the cluster. There is a small slide switch on the rear of the speedo, left of the speedo cable. I usually look through the windshield, standing in the doorway, and locate the switch. Using a small screwdriver, move the switch to the other side, and voila...no more light on.

Can't help with the codes yet, as I have not tried the motions myself.

The light is just a reminder to have the vehicle tuned up and not an indicator of any actual problems.

But to answer your question about how to check the codes... please check the FAQ thread at the top of the forum for a link to the procedure.

You'll probably discover posts to other questions there as well.

Not sure. You can download the 96 FSM (see the FAQ link at the top of the forum) and check it there. It will be the same for the 95SR.

I could not find anything for it in the FAQ section? Am I looking in the wrong area?

See www.mitsubishilinks.com

Also I just doublechecked and there is a manual for a 92-95 Montero there as well.
