sooooooooo...about a half a year ago, i put in an electric fan on the T. Its a 13 in. off a C5 Z06 corvette. I installed it, along with a $20 generic thermostatic controller, and manual switch to turn it on full time. but...i haz issues. now, when ever i turn my cb radio on, i hear the rf interference from the fan. i know its the fan, because turning it on and off turns the interference on and off. so, i know about rf filters, im just not sure where to put it in the system...whether it goes in with the electric fan or with the cb. im kinda stumped and starting to get frustrated...

Make sure you have a decent to great ground plane. Did you ground the item yer antenna is hooked up to? Don't just rely on the notion the body is grounded with all the various fasteners...make the connection!

Stay with me on this...On Ultimate Car Buildoff the other night, they wired up paintball guns to be remotely fired. They started firing by themselves due to, yup, RF interference. They solved the issue by isolating the metal guns from the frame using a plastic mounting plate (separating the guns from the metal frame).

My point it that maybe the CB is mounted metal to metal and maybe should have an isolator plate (plastic)? I dunno...could be worth a shot.

well, i have the cb mounted to plastic, and power and ground are supplied via the cigarette lighter lol. so i dont think that is the issue. on the other hand, i have the electric fan grounded to the radiator support, thus grounded through the body. the cb antenna is bolted to the stake hole in the bed on the passenger side. do you think that this could be the cause of the issue?

Hardwire the CB or atleast the ground wire.

I don't think there is a specific ground wire going to the frame, which is what the bed is bolted to, so you may not have a very good ground for your antenna.

Make sure you have excellent grounds and install a filter capacitor at the fan and CB and I'd bet your problem will go away. A CB shop can probably help you out.

i think i may have found at least part of my issue. i was looking over every thing today and found that the coax cable is fraying at both connectors. figure it might be time to splurge on a new coax. as for the filters, do i place them in the power wires for eact of the two?

ok cool. thank you for the help. i was also planning on running a ground wire from the bed to the frame with self tapping screws. i dont see how it would hurt so might as well.

Make sure you sand everything down and coat with dielectric grease so they dont rust/corrosde.
