Getting the Wheeling Fever

I just recently pick up this vehicle and not to sure if it has an LSD rear diff or not.
The vehicle in question is a 1990 SWB Pajero 2.5L Turbo Diesel Intercooled. It's an NG EXE with power windows, coil spring rear and drum brakes. Imported from Japan.
I know normally it would have a sticker saying to use LSD oil only but I can see an outline where it may have been removed or fallen off.
Also as further information. I was leaving work the other day reversing up hill off camber and the inside wheel lost traction and smoked the tire which leads me to think it isnt LSD. This was in 2WD.
The reason I ask is I want to change the oil but dont want to use the wrong one.
Any help much appreciated.

If there is no orange sticker in the door jam, check on the rear axle itself. No matter the position of the t-case lever (2wd or 4wd), my Raider always has LSD in the rear.

Jack up both rear wheels (chock the fronts) and attempt to rotate one wheel. If the other wheel rotates in the same direction, it's lsd, opposite direction it's not.

Did the jack idea as no stickers anywhere.
Confirmed....NO LSD Thanks for the help though.
Is this something that is difficult to swap out and is it expensive?
I am imagining that an open diff would be near useless offroad.

Can't help you on expensive, but pretty easy to swap out an entire axle. Just the third member is a little tougher, but doable.
I'd check your local wreckers for the part. Should have an orange sticker on the rear of the diff.
Try outerlimits web site for some local help on Paj's. Say hi to Frank for us...

A swap is fairly easy.
1) Drain fluid. 2) Uncouple prop shaft from the companion flange. 3) Remove wheels, drums, unbolt and unhook e-brake cables. 4) Unbolt axle flanges at axle housing. 5) Pull out axles about 6". 6) Unbolt and remove 3rd member. 7) Clean sealing surface on axle housing and new 3rd member. 8) Install new 3rd member with liberal RTV. 9) Completely remove axles and install new o-rings. 10) Check axle end play per FSM spec and shim accordingly (shim kits available from dealer). 11) Apply sealant to axle housing hub flange and install axles. 12) Reinstall e-brake cables, drums and wheels. 13) Reinstall prop shaft. 14) Fill differential with gear oil and friction modifer. 15) Drive it.
You might find it easier to remove the anti-sway bar, but it's possible to do the swap with it in place.... just a little fiddly.

This doesn't sound too difficult. Think I should be able to handle it. Just have to get my hands on the right parts.
I currently have a leak from either the gearbox or the transfer case that I need to get sorted first. Going to give this one to a professional to do though as both of these items are pretty heavy and out of my tooling capabilities in the garage on jack stands. Probably going to have to pay out the for this to be fixed.

Hey guys, I just completed a drain and refill of the gear lube on each of the diffs and transfer case this weekend.
I assume I had LSD because of what appeared the be the remains of 2 factory stickers in the door jamb. 1 I assumed was the tell-tale orange sticker, but all that's left is a striped white adhesive residue.
I should have done the spin test while I had it jacked for the KYB replacement. Is this 100% accurate?
Short of jacking it again later this evening, is there another way to check? isnt there a build code somewhere on the radiator core support to say yes this has LSD?
And lastly... yes I did add the LSD additive. Am i hurting anything by having that stuff in there if it turns out to be a non-LSD diff?

If you have the headlight washers, more than likely you also have an LSD rear.
I don't think the additive will hurt anything in an open differential.

No headlamp washers Damn. I wonder what that 2nd label was they removed then?
And from what else I've been able to Google, yes Frank youre right on the additive. LSD additive should not harm a regular open diff.
May one day arrange to do a swap if I keep her. But with the starter trouble less than 24hrs after getting her back on the road, my patience is wearing extremely thin!
