Universals? Just to be sure, you are talking about U-joints correct and not the front CV joints (on the front half shafts)? If you are referring to the U-joints, don't try pressing everything through with the clip in place, you'll bow out the yoke ears before that clip budges or breaks. You can however kinda press it one way a little sometimes just to loosen one of of the clips and then go the other way to release the tension on the other clip once you remove the first. I don't remember which clip style the sportage is but the most common is the 'G' style clip, those you just pinch with a good pair of need nose pliers and wiggle back and forth. Can use a flat head screw driver to help get the clip unstuck from it's groove. Better than GM's setup.. have to torch the glue that they inject into the yoke through a hole. Strong glue too. the u joints on those won't budge untill that glue has been melted and puked out the little hole on those. I've done a bunch of U joints. Once the clips are out, you still need a hell of a c-clamp or press to push the unit part.. you press it one way to remove of the caps, then the other way to press the other cap out and then the u joint should just come out of the yoke at that point.
