Do not attempt to penetrate the ancient one who emits odiferous quantities of methane. (Did that avoid all the filters?) Last December when my wife asked me what I wanted for Christmas, I replied, ôa gym membershipö. I was out of shape, not terribly but out of shape none the less. The membership included an initial session with a trainer as well as monthly follow-ups. After a month, it was apparent to me that I was making progress, but not the type of progress that I wanted. I began paying for weekly sessions with a trainer and the progress really sped up. By May, I was beginning to plateau. My body fat index had stopped decreasing as well as my weight. Even though it was expensive, I began having two sessions per week. In late June, my trainer was bragging to another trainer about the amount of weight that I was doing on the squat and leg press machines. He replied that I should consider competitive lifting. I demurred, pointing out that I have a trick shoulder which limits what I can do on the bench press and squat. His retort was that I could still do the dead lift. I agreed to a test the following week to see whether I could be anywhere near competitive. I also did some research to find out what the State record was for my age and weight. In the initial test, I lifted 245 pounds. It turned out that the State record was only 275. I agreed to start training for a meet on August 28th which is today. (Note: 275 pounds is 125 kilo). Well today was the day. In the competition, you are allowed 3 lifts. My three lifts were 135 kilo, 145 kilo, and 155 kilo. So my last lift was 341.5 pounds.

Dang! That's a lot of weight to lift. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" /> That's great to set a record like that. And you broke the record on your first lift. Congratulations!

That's great to hear Jim; am needing some inspiration myself. Got a bit too fat this past winter; it sucks. >gads<
