Getting the Wheeling Fever
Just a quick poll to see what people are using for engine oil. I have been running a conventional oil, Valvoline 10W30 for several years now.

Is anyone out there using a synthetic engine oil? If so, what brand? Also, would it be worth switching to a synthetic oil at 219,000 miles?

I have conventional oil 20w-50. I have in the past allways run 10w-30 Full synthetic. I think I will go back to the 10w-30. I change it every 2500-3000 miles

Not trying to start a riot, but Castrol is merely a bottling company with a VERY good marketing department. They do not make their own product. For the most part, they don't even have unique additive packages. Their products are by no means inferior, though.

According to most "oil guys" I've talked with, as long as you change your oil on a reasonably regular schedule, use whatever oil that makes you feel good. Or whatever brand that "speaks" to you. In my experience, and theirs, the filter is the more important place to be picky about the product.

Me personally, I use whatever my oil supplier comps me. Right now, it's Delo 400. My fresh rebuild got a quart of Lucas, 4 quarts of Delo 15W40 dynosaur and an OE Mitsu filter.

FWIW, there's a ton of info here.

Fasteddy's advice is occasionally sound...

At 167,000 miles, I run my 1993 3.0L with Mobil One 5-30 Synthetic for High Mileage Vehicles. The prior owner used a different brand but also 5-30 Synthetic High Mileage. I tried running conventional 5-30 with 20% Lucas, but found the engine did not like it (more start-up tapping from the lash adjusters). Also use OEM filters.
