Today is the 5 year mark. I still miss LA. I miss my family and friends the most. The shrimp Po-boys and boiled crawfish are not bad either. I am going to try to move back at the end of this year or next summer.

These are not my pics. Some of them were taken by a guy we worked with getting the FEMA trailers up and running. A couple of them I have no idea who took them. I will add more in the next few days. I have to go to work in a few minutes.

Having been down there while stationed in FL, I must say that last bridge shot is pretty dang impressive. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

My roomie had a friend down in Gulf Breeze(?) who was among those who kept tally on the dump trucks during recovery.

Who would have imagined building below sea level that close to the ocean would have negative consequences.

Look no further than the Netherlands. Both areas were/are world-class seaports.

Have a look at the massive engineering that has gone into flood mitigation in the Netherlands, versus what was present in the low lying areas of land in the way of Katrina.

Before anyone says "but that was a hurricane", the storms off the North sea adjacent to the Netherlands can be almost as severe, producing massive swells that become tsunami like as they approach land.
