IIRC, .85 refers to gauge. As in, .85mm diameter. At least that's what I've measured...

So i went to the pick a part yard and found 4 monteros.. all of which had no Hazard switches. Found a switch that looked like someone had the same issue and took a lighter and melted the plastic around it.

Went back into the car yanked out the one on my dash and found that it was the hazard switch. The Plastic was so brittle that the locking tabs had broken off on one side. I took a zip tie and zipped tied it so that the contacts touched and WALLAH! Brake lights worked again.

I gorilla glued the plastic tabs so that the circuit board is now permanently bonded to the back.

Glad this is finally over! I love my truck again.
Left Pick a part with about 80 dollars worth of parts but now my truck looks great inside again!

Glad it was a relatively easy fix. Contact rxinhed about another hazard switch. If he doesn't have any, look on Ebay. They come up on there rather frequently.

Here is a detail of the brakes, #4 is the 'stop light switch' ... What is its purpose, why is it called a switch, can you reset it? It just looks like a plug to me.

My hazards work, blinkers work, running lites, etc. everything has worked fine up to this point. Would my hazards have to be malfunctioning for that to be the problem? Russell are you still living in placerville?

It is a switch. When the brake pedal is at rest in the upwardmost position, the unnumbered little button above the spring in the picture depresses the switch. When you depress the brake pedal, the switch closes, turning on the brake lights. From everything you're saying, it's the switch that's bad. It could be the hazard switch, but usually that's accompanied by erratic turn signals...

.85 is the cross sectional area of the wire conductor in sq mm, equivalent to wire gauge, except with more sense to it, since bigger number is a fatter wire, unlike US wire gauges where 8ga is a lot fatter than 16ga.

That makes sense.

In the pic, the button looks like it might be threaded, allowing for a slightly adjustable activation point.
