Yes, the 2nd gen Runners and 3rd Gen trucks had the same width fenders.

I am not sure if the DLX model runners came w/SR5 alloys or not, I know the trucks didn't, even w/the 31" tire package. The DLX trucks came with the steel wagon style wheels.

I think a 15x7 w/3.5" BS would still keep you legal, the tread shouldn't be beyond the fender. Might be able to go w/a 15x8 and a 4" BS as well. He could always run some Warn fender flares to cover the tires.

15x8 w/3.5" BS and 32's look alright w/the Warn fender flares. That is how my truck was set up in this pic, back in '94.
