Actually, it should be 1.125" backspacing + 1/2 width of the wider wheel. 1" wider wheel only adds 1/2" to each side of the wheel centerline. So 1.125" from backspace and 1/2" from width = 1.625" wider.

Note - this does not take into acc't sidewall reaction to wider wheel. That can vary from tire to tire.
