Blown head gasket is more than I can handle, so if that is the case I will probably get rid of this car once and for all and buy a motorcycle. I don't think it is however because the coolant is/(was when drained) as clear and green as can be. The oil is also pretty much in perfect condition. If the seal was broken to the extent the car broke down and hoses sprung leak, shouldn't there be clues in the fluids?

I just bolted the thermostat housing back on and it cracked on me. Is there a fool proof way of getting it back on without spending money on a torque wrench? It is really hard aligning the thermostat since there are no edges it can grip and the housing ended up squeezing one side more than the other and it cracked. My gasket has glue on one side and attached to the block; should I apply glue to the other connecting with the housing to prevent the need for over-torquing it?

Thanks for ALL the help so far, I'll be sure to post pictures of a happy temp gauge once this mess has been taken care of.
