Frank - I checked the specs on HP and torque on Edmunds (not sure how reliable that is), and they were the same between the Mitsu and Hyundai. So, the grind might be the same. They call for the same timing belt, also. However, I contacted a cam rebuilder, and he said the cams are different, so I'm not sure what the difference is... At this point, I think it'll work fine with the Hyundai cams...
Dave - thanks for the info. I will used the Mitsu distributor. Your info makes the cam grind look the same, also, so that's good.
I was going to pull the Mitsu engine last weekend but life got in the way so I will attempt to pull it this weekend! I want to have both engines on the ground before I do anything. Once on the ground, I'll start removing/replacing things.
Replacing the following on the Hyundai (65,000 org miles):
front main seal
rear main seal
timing belt and idler
freeze plugs (one in the back looks pretty bad)
dist. cap/rotor/wires/plugs
clutch/pressure plate/throwout bearing/pilot bearing
belts and hoses
Swapping the following from Mitsu to Hyundai:
Intake and everything above the intake
valve covers
oil pan
oil pickup tube
flywheel
exhaust manifolds
motor mounts
Front accessory brackets
Crank pulley
Distributor
Injectors*
(and probably some other stuff that I can't remember right now)
*Can anyone tell me if the injectors are the same? They are listed with different part numbers but I'm wondering if they're the same except for the e-plug? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated!
Anyway, I'll keep you guys posted and thanks for the info. Hopefully I'll have the Mitsu engine on the ground this weekend. Whether or not I'll have time to start swapping/replacing parts remains to be seen.
Oh, wanted to ask - since I'm not a paying member, is there a limit to the number of photos that I can have posted? If someone knows, please let me know...I'd like to photo document the two engines as I go along as closely as possible...
