how much longer does that "strech" your front driveshaft???

I'm not sure if it's "stretching" it at all...I think it's actually pretty close to the same. The axle housing is empty right now, I'm probably going to pull it out tomorrow to do the final assembly on the axle...so, I'll try to get a better idea then.

It looks like the driveshaft might hit the clutch slave. Have you put the trans into its normal position , as if the engine were in , to see if slave clears.

Well, I've got an automatic, and I didn't change it's position.

Man, not much room to work on exhaust pipes around there either.

I'm hoping since I'm using the Gen 2 Y-pipe it'll clear. If it doesn't fit...I'll make it fit.

Quite a few M.S. 4.9 high pinion pumpkins out there in the yards.

I'm keeping my eyes peeled... '99 and newer I'm looking for, right?

I was thinking you had an MT. Yep, I think you've got alot more room to play with an AT.
On the pumpkin I was thinking that the high pinion would cause the driveshaft to slide out of the T case a little farther. Doesn't the companion flange sit about 2 inch higher? Of cource this my not be of any importance since the driveshaft does have to move with an axle.
After I win the lottery I'd like to go for the 4.9s , too.
They would come in handy at Garcia Ridge. Just not to sure if this high pinion would work , leaving me with no optional gear choices.
I'll have to check Alldatapro at the Lib. to see when 4.9's started in the M.S.. I'm thinking with the idependant rear suspension 00., possibly the 4.9 only came with M.S. 3.5 SOHC engines. Lots of unbeatup 4wd M.S.s that are only used as soccermom mobiles.

The Gen 2 cover does have a nice little fitting on it, but it's not the most amazing thing ever...you could put a hose barb on the Gen 1 cover pretty easily.

I went to Nate's yesterday. While chatting, this front diff cover thing came up. We both figgered that the fitting for the GenII might fit in the GenI cover. Reuben had pulled a salvage cover and sent it to me (I still need to know how much to send you). Brendan and I had already put my old cover on with RTV and all, so I pulled the fitting out of my current cover. My thinking was if the GenI fitting went into the GenII cover, then it would work vice versa. And it did...

Said all that to say, if you're wanting to do this, call the stealer and order P/N MR176208. It's the fitting itself and the rubber o-ring to seal it with. IIRC it was less than $10. I'll be posting this in P/N suppository for posterity.
