Getting the Wheeling Fever
I have a gen 1 with a non LSD rear diff and want to do a swap to one with LSD.

The LSD diff is a gen 1 also and also from a 2.5l diesel. Same as my vehicle.

Do I need to replace the drive shafts with those from the LSD or is it as simple as swapping the 3rd member (diff housing)?

Thanks for the help.

Should be a straight chunk swap, axles and driveshaft all the same. The only difference is in the side gear housing...

The LSD carrier has a "thrust" washer in the center, and the axle shafts form a non LSD may be too long. On mine they were aprox. 1/8 inch (about 4mm) longer.
I'll advise you to measure them before hand.

Other wise the third member should bolt right up.

I ended up picking up 93 gen 2 rear axle complete from disc to disc on eBay for $50 !! Not only do I get LSD now but also disc brakes and more heavy duty trailing arms.

The wrecking yard wanted $175 for the third member alone.

I did get some aisin manual locking hubs from the wrecking yard for $66 for the pair.

Yeah I confirmed the ratios matched before purchasing.
