Reuben's recent thread, coupled with my dissatisfaction with my Isspro O.P. gauge has me thinking about replacing it with a mechanical gauge and routing the nylon/copper/whatever feeder line to the gauge. I recall reading a post from Charlie saying not to route nylon tubing near the battery because the fumes would cause the nylon to deteriorate, and I've read the copper tubing has it's own set of issues with work hardening (heat expansion/contraction, right?), and everyone says don't run the nylon near the exhaust manifolds or anywhere extremely hot... what to do, what to do???

So, let's hear from those of you who have done it... what sort of line did you use, how did you route it in the engine bay, where did you breach the firewall, and how did you route the tubing under the dash to the gauge?

Of course, some pictures would be very, very helpful

I used DOT air brake line tubing with push-to-connect fittings, secured with zip ties to the high side a/c line run to the grommet at the firewall. Inside I ran it behind all the crap in the dash. Real simple and has held up for almost 2 years...

Fasteddy's advice is occasionally sound...

Body Damage is Cool
Not much help to you since you have a manual with the clutch slave cylinder, but for us with the automatic, the round spot right by the brake master cylinder is normally where the clutch master cylinder goes. that is the perfect spot to run things thru the firewall. But like I said, that's for those with the automatics.

The wiring grommet usually has extra nipples which are a good size match for the nylon tubing, plus I sealed mine with rtv.
