hey guys, check this out. have my transmission out for a clutch job and planning to speedi-sleeve the input shaft, and install new seal and also rear main seal while I'm in there.

was on the fence about getting a rebuilt Marlin transmission, but decided to just do the clutch for now and see if I can get by a while longer.

any of you had any experience rebuilding transmissions and would know by looking at this video whether this is too much play for that bearing?

just a quick note -- I installed a new seal in the front cover and reinstalled it. the play diminished significantly, as in, very little/next to none. I think the front cover stabilizes the bearing a bit, as it seems to have a recess machined to accommodate the snap-ring that holds the bearing in place.

I am, however, in the middle of pulling the transmission to replace the seal again. I nicked it slightly putting the front cover back on. I thought it was an unaffected area of the seal, but apparently not. got a nice dual-lip Timken seal this time.

Its normal to have play. The centerpin slides into the small bearing in the crank stabilizing it.
There's only the one large bearing you see and a smaller needle roller bearing that goes into the secondaryshaft.

yeah, I thought about that, as well.

I was also surprised by the amount of play on newly replaced rear axle bearings about 10 years ago. I guess I always thought sealed cartridge bearings would be tighter than that.
