Kroil is about the best penetrating oil there is. I use it for all sorts of stuff. Anyway, I finally got the hood open. I had to rip the grill off (not too hard cause I had previously broken off most of the attachment points) to gain access. What had happened was that, while I was previosuly working that latch/cable back and forth, the cable end/ball came undone out of the latch mechanism that it attaches to.
