So I ask you all. What would you pay for a 22RE with 189k on the odo? Head gasket went at 90k and when it was fixed I had a mild cam and a double timing chain upgrade.(New water and oil pump included). Only other thing is the exhaust was upgraged to a header from Downey. Oil and plugs changed regularly by myself. I'm thinking of swapping in a 7mge that needs a home.

Here in CA, I haven't ever paid more than $350 for a used 22r/e. If you through in the ecu and wiring harness, maybe list it for $6-700. If you aren't in hurry to sell it, you could list it for more and see if you get any takers. It would be easier to sell it for more if you leave it in the truck so perspective buyers can hear the engine run and drive the truck. If it were me(and will be as soon as I come across a '91 7m w/harness), I would look for a Toyota 4x4 or 2x4 with a bad engine for around $500, something like this 1990 Toyota pickup $500 (Pocatello), or this 1987 Toyota 4X4 Pickup, swap your good motor into it, and make some extra cash.
More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else. '90 X-cab 4.88's 33 BFG AT's, rr ARB, Headers, Ignition upgrade, cold air induction. '91 X-cab 5.29's 315's BFG MT's, rr ARB, custom bumper and flatbed

Yeah I'm in a pickle here!! I thought about picking up an non-runner and dropping the 7mge in it, but money is tight so that's not really an option. I'm thinking I'm gonna have to sell the 22RE to fund the 7mge. He's gonna give me a screaming deal on it, so I'm really trying to make this work. I can't beat the hp upgrade for the dollar amount. Good call on leaving the motor in the truck, I was thinking the same thing. Wish I could list the ECU and wiring harness, but I'm gonna need the both of them for the swap....I think!

Which end of Idaho are you on?
I lost both 22R's that I had ready to be dropped in 2 years ago to flooding 2 months apart. Shot $3K of machine shop work right in the <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/butwiggle.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" />
Yards up here are pretty much stripped, or I'd be pulling an unknown and lugging it to the machine shop-- again.

I'm in Caldwell, just about twenty minutes west of Boise. So the southwest end of it I guess! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

The 7m should be torn down and rebuilt, unless it has very few miles on it, so you should have time to look for a cheap rebuildable, rig for your 22re, if you can't find anyone willing to pay what you want for it. Might also talk to a buddy and split the cost of the rebuild, i.e. he buys the rig you supply the engine, split the profits.
You wont reuse the 22re's ecu, or much of the engine side wiring harness, so make sure to get the wiring harness and ecu w/the 7m.

The 7m got 140k on it and was a strong runner when it was removed. Only reason he swapped it was because he got a good deal on a 7mgte and wanted more hp. I'm probably not going to be able to rebuild the 7mge right now although I know it would be so, so much easier. Have to keep the cost down if I'm going to make this work. My plan at this point is to sell the 22re, leaving it in the truck to let buyers hear it and drive the truck. Then once someone is willing I'll tear her heart out and give her a stronger one. *I was wondering about the ECU part of it and for some reason I've got all confused with the info I've read. So the Supra ECU stays with the motor and I have to splice it into the existing wiring that goes to the truck? I read a write-up of a swap like this, but I swear it began to make my head hurt after awhile!!! I'm positive he has the complete harness for the 7M and I'm almost sure that he has the ECU too.

Yes, you should get the ecu with the 7m, and the engine side wiring harness. The 22re ecu wont be able to work with the 7m, since it has two more injectors and 1 more knock sensor. If you can get an entire wiring harness it would be the best thing to do, I am not sure if your friend's 7mge harness has all the extra sensor wires for the 7mgte, and I believe he needs the 7mgte ecu, since the ecu has to deliver a wider range of fuel to the turbo engine than it does to the N/A. If he can re-use his 7mge harness, you should be able to pick one up from a wrecker, or off of one of the Supra boards such as Supraforums, or Supramania. Also the Cressida came w/the 7m, so you ar not limited to getting one off of an '86.5-'92 Supra. Here is a link to a 1990 Toyota Supra Factory Service Manual, for your swap.

Yeah he got the complete swap for his turbo, so he has the 7m engine, harness and ECU. Hell he even has the complete exhaust so I can scavange from that too!! All this is being offered at a great price so I'm trying real hard to make this work. I'm really nervous about the wiring, the actual engine swapping doesn't sound all that hard. Even with all the links explaining the wiring I'm still confused! Any tricks to understaning this stuff?!

Wiring will be the biggest headache. I haven't read through the swap linked above, it might be there. If not there are few guys w/both the 7m and gte in trucks over on Marlin, that might be help, and I think some have done the swap on Pirate as well. You also have Supratrucks.com, that may be of some help.
