I'm almost done converting my '87 Raider to diesel. The thing that's holding me up is that I can't find a thermostat for my 4D56T. This engine was made in 1995, meaning it was one of the "later" ones manufactured by Hyundai for Mitsubishi. I've included an image showing the thermostat housing. The seating area is 60mm across. Thanks to anyone who can give me a source for this thermostat.

Is this part of the water pump housing?

I just had my thermostat replaced by the mechanic. Mine is a 1990 4D56T though.

Yes, it is part of the water pump housing. 60mm across the seating area for the thermostat.

Try this place:

Or this guy:

I've used both in the past for my 4D56 and my 4M40 parts.

Thanks so much for the leads, Phil. Rocky Mountain couldn't help me, but I'll try the other place. The thing is, nobody seems to know what vehicle this engine was made for. The engine was manufactured in 1995 by Hyundai, so I think it was either in the Galloper or the Delica. Any ideas? I have the serial number.

I would have to go with it being from a Delica (L300).

Give this a look.

Thanks so much for the info, Nabsie. Shipping on that thermostat from Rock Auto is $28. Ouch. But I may have no choice. I've got to light this engine off before the snow flies up here in Maine.

I've got no help on the thermostat, but please post some pictures of your truck, and engine. I'm sure it'd be a worthy post!

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Just some info if anyone looks at this in the future as I have already communicated with Red1987Raider.

I did a bit of looking around at thermostats for the 4D56T engine ranging over 86-00 year models and there doesn't seem to be any difference in the thermostats.

I looked at three different thermostat manufacturers and they all state that it is 54mm diameter. Which is odd because Red has measure twice now and confirmed the seating area is 60mm. 6mm difference seems like a lot to me.

Still yet to be confirmed as to what thermostat is correct fitment.

Haynes manual says the thermostat is sealed with RTV also for a bit of side info.

Now post ya truck...we all want to see it <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/drunk.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Thanks, Nabsie and Landraider for all your consideration and hard work. All the other Pajero parts I scrounged for my 4D56T fit just fine. Why the thermostat should be an issue I don't know. I will, however, post pics of my truck and engine soon. Hood is still off the truck, but nobody's perfect. Oh, and one question about the thermostat: some of them have a rubber ring that fits around them. Is the Pajero thermostat one of these? Could this be the extra surface area I'm looking for to make the thermostat sit flush?
