well i put a new fuel filter and fresh gas in before i got it running and after driving this weekend i put 10 more fresh gallons in. I was kinda thinking my injectors could be a little gummed up and i will be getting a new fuel pump because the one i have now is noisy. I know for sure my injectors were gummed up and sticking before and that's originally why it wouldn't start. How long do you think it will take to clear up? a tank or two?

WIthout a HD cleaner, forever. I'd take the injectors to a good cleaning service and get them flushed and flow tested.

I had my 85 d50 sit for several years waiting on an engine ressurection (my original 2.6T transplant) and the old fuel caused no end of problems, and when I finally got it running right, I had put so much carb/injector cleaner and acetone and xylol thru it that the electical grommets came out of the external fuel pump and it puked half a tank of fuel on the ground. I had to tie the fuel pump back together with wire to get it home, dribbling fuel all the way.

Maybe i'll just drive it as is and save up for some good matched injectors then. But once i get it all together and legal looking i plan on driving it up into the mountains so if that drive doesn't smooth things out nothing will.

Toasty, I know nothing of this engine, so forgive my ignorance. Does it have four injectors?

Anyway, I used Cruizin' Performance to clean and inspect my turbo-Raider injectors. Good service, fast turn-around.

Here's a couple other options.

I'd still go with a can of Seafoam in the gas tank for starters.

I'd start with the Seafoam going in through the brake booster vacuum line, myself.

thru the brake booster line will not clean the inside of the injectors like a dose thru the tank will.

I'd also throw about 16oz of acetone thru the tank, and I might pull the injectors and put a drop on the nozzle of each one, nozzle up, and let it sit there, plus prime the injectors with acetone (pour them full) as you install them, then crank the truck up, which will blow a fat dose thru the injector.

Wow, great ideas - I wish someone had suggested them to me about 10 years ago when I was installing a used JDM engine in my 1985 Toyota Supra. I would have had it running about a week sooner and suffered far less hair loss in the process. smile
