Need a Spot
Just bought an almost perfect 88 Raider with 40k miles. The "hat" on top of the reed valve (secondary air into the air cleaner) is rusted out and resonating with the exhaust. Looks like it is a ~$200 part? Do I replace it new or used? Block it off somehow? Go with ~$200 headers? Any other suggestions?

Thanks

My upgrades:
Curt 2" receiver tow hitch
Re-undercoated the wheel wells
Gen 2 padded center console cover "armrest"
Highland all-weather front mats
Double DIN JVC Receiver
Power locks with remote

OK, I think I will try the quarter trick for now till I find a replacement. Hopefully I will not have to cut the pipe though. It is brand new from the previous owner.

May not cure the rattle, but it will block the exhaust flow, so you could maybe jam up the rattling part.

Yep, put the quarter in there and it is still the same.

so if you quarter doesn't fix the rattle, does that mean it isn't the read valve causing the problem?

Reed valve is a check valve to allow air flow only into the exhaust. The hat he has rattling is the vac valve that turns the system on and off, I think.

Yep I need a "new" one or at least a good cap. Mine is rusted and almost completely off.

Will blocking reed valve help with emissions?
