Here in Oregon if you fail, you don't pay anything. But then all of our smog checks are also done at state run stations.

I don't know how it's done in Kali, but if they privitized the system and forced you visit private "certified" smog checkers, they will always charge for their time.

Something does seem fishy to me. Unless you disconnected the battery at the smog station, the computer should have data to go off of with the drive to the station. I wonder if the mechanic or smog station is taking you for a ride. What do they care if they get paid either way and when you return, they'll get paid twice.

I'd go somewhere else, at the very least.

Your car is connected to a networked smog check station controlled by the state here. That computer checks for the readiness codes. Without them it knows you've recently disconnected your battery to clear the codes.

If you went elsewhere their networked smog station would know you'd been elsewhere.

Yea Brian this was what they call a "Test Only" station where they put your rig on a Dyno looking thing and drive it like its on the highway. The computer is linked to the state and has a hose to the tail pipe, a hose to the gas cap and a wire going to the computer.....maybe even a few others I didn't see.

I understand the idea behind having a drive cycle history but this knowledge shouldn't cost me/average joe so much IMO. The GOTCHA fees piss me off.......

All this for a four cylinder. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> The carbon I'm emitting trying to comply is more than this engine emits. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
