Thought I would let everyone know if you are looking for a hitch with a 2" receiver compatible with more accessories, this one will fit with a little persuasion. All that is needed is to trim 3/4" under the bumper to allow clearance for the angled support. Then bolts right on. Just remember this does not increase towing capacity!

Class IIIs attach to the frame rails AND the four center bolts.

That style is really secure feeling. I found one on a 91 LWB and adapted it to fit my 87 Raider. trimmed the frame mount on the reciever, then made and welded brackets to the frame. SOLID! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

I'm sure it is adequate for most things we tow but from what I've read that can't be a class III. Dropping the receiver off of those bolts and towing anything big creates leverage loads that those bolts (grade 8 or otherwise) aren't engineered to handle alone.

Not sure what class this would be, but I notched out the existing four bolts on my 96 and welded the receiver right to the frame and beefed it up with 1/4" plate steel. This really makes the trailer feel like part of the truck and the departure angle is still the same. Since the geometry is the same as a class III hitch and the frame steel is beefy enough I'd imagine this is close to class III.....given my welds are worth a crap. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Agreed I would not tow more than 2000lbs which is what my 2.8L is rated for. But this is perfect for bike racks, cargo baskets, small trailers....
