I'm sure it is adequate for most things we tow but from what I've read that can't be a class III. Dropping the receiver off of those bolts and towing anything big creates leverage loads that those bolts (grade 8 or otherwise) aren't engineered to handle alone.

Not sure what class this would be, but I notched out the existing four bolts on my 96 and welded the receiver right to the frame and beefed it up with 1/4" plate steel. This really makes the trailer feel like part of the truck and the departure angle is still the same. Since the geometry is the same as a class III hitch and the frame steel is beefy enough I'd imagine this is close to class III.....given my welds are worth a crap. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
