Should correspond with your trailer plug-in, ie 3 male pins and one female pin for the ground, unless it's a 7-pin harness.

The stock ones on my Toyotas are frame-mounted, but on the rear beam.

Follow the harness up and forward; you should come to some kind of a converter box if it isn't mounted too high.
